Academic Assembly Meeting (3/2/10)

Hey all,

One of the things I wanted to do with this blog is give everyone a comprehensive breakdown of every meeting we hold to keep students who cannot attend the meetings "in the loop." Here is the breakdown of the main points of our meeting tonight:
  • We had a long discussion regarding the budget of ASMSU for the upcoming year. Discussing where those funds will be distributed; for what purpose; etc.
  • We discussed the idea of Town Hall Forums in which representatives would go out into the MSU campus community to meet with students directly regarding issues they feel we should be addressing.
  • We approved a new representative from the College of Engineering-Ryan Walsh.
  • We passed a bill that would require ASMSU to hold a State-Advocacy meeting every Fall and Spring Semester in which we would advocate for student issues at the Lansing Capitol.
  • We passed a bill to explore the possibility of creating an ASMSU sponsored textbook swap website in which students would be able to trade textbooks with one another in a safe, regulated environment.
  • Finally, we discussed the elimination of the Director of Educational Policy position. This decision was deemed appropriate by the assembly due to the money we would save from the elimination of this position, and recognizing the work can be consolidated to other departments across ASMSU.

This was an incredibly exhausting, but worthwhile meetings. We got much accomplished in our time together, and I believe we are the road to fundamentally shaping the organization to better serve students.

As always, if you have any questions of comments, please do not hesitate to comment or contact any of us at our personal email accounts.
